Course reflection

This course was heavily focused on looking at different case studies and identifying red flags related to academic and professional integrity. We discussed different scenarios in our professional and academic settings where integrity was either maintained well or poorly. I was able to reflect on instances in my undergraduate experience when I was not able to speak up against authority figure although they were wrong or not acting in a professional manner. We were also introduced to the website, Retraction Watch, which I believe is a valuable website I will use in the future as well. The Retraction Watch website can be used to debunk a lot of misconceptions that revolve around social media based on false claims or retracted papers. One particular example was a paper about 5G causing COVID. I have seen people on my social media talk about this issue but never understood the basis of this claim. Looking through the Retraction Watch website allowed me to view multiple retracted articles about COVID which helped me understand how false scientific claims spread around social media regarding this topic. I now feel more confident to be able to identify red flags in academic and professional settings because of this course.
