CEL Rotation Reflection 

Emma, Seliya and I worked with Aplastic Anemia and Myelodysplasia Association (AAMAC). AAMAC is a federally incorporated and registered national charity and leading funder of research for bone marrow failure diseases in Canada.  Through our CEL, we were able to understand how challenging it is to work on a grant review process and policy document. Both of these documents have not been created previously for AAMAC. We had to start from scratch and consult AAMAC's Executive Director, former Board of Chair and a recent grant recipient. The creation of these documents are  an iterative process that needs consultation and discussions with multiple individuals. At times the process was frustration as we had no prior experience, however, I believe once the documents are created it will be a rewarding experience. Over the few months after learning about AAMAC, researching similar non-profits, I was able to value the work of small non-profits that continue to support research, education, and advocacy groups.
